Chartered Institute of Environmental Health : Media myths damage health and safety: "Publication Date: 27 October 2006 Misleading media stories about killer conkers and ladder bans have damaged public confidence in health and safety laws, according to a new report by the Trades Union Council. TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said inaccurate and exaggerated reports were undermining the whole concept of health and safety in the public’s eyes. ‘They perpetuate a false picture of Britain as a risk-averse country wrapped in cotton wool with a compensation culture gone haywire,’ he said."
