Letter to the Daily Mail re: 'Council killjoys warn children of dangers of crabbing - the crabs get distressed'

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health |News Centre:
"Dear sir,

It strikes me the Daily Mail will be blaming 'health and safety' for banning monkeys from swinging in trees next.

It's blatantly obvious your story 'Council killjoys warn children of dangers of crabbing – the crabs get distressed' (Daily Mail, 9 June) has nothing to do with health and safety. Any ban on crabbing is on animal welfare grounds – not health and safety.

Health and safety professionals are tired of seeing their profession being used as a needless excuse to ban all manner of things. Health and safety is not about petty bans, bureaucracy and crackpot curtailments on crabbing, it's about helping people live their lives and get done what they want to.

Yours sincerely

Ray Hurst"
