Letter to The Sun: Fly the flag for common sense

"Sir,

So, now it's mayors who are victims of bans blamed on so-called 'elf and safety ('Mayor's flag is too dangerous' The Sun, Saturday 28 June).

As President of Britain’s safety and health professional body let me assure Sun readers that we don't want to go around banning everything or put an end to civic pride. We don’t support silly bans and we reckon a solution can be found in this case – I’m sure many of our 33,000 members could help with the practicalities.

But it seems there’s more to it here – Maidstone Borough’s spokesman was quoted as saying cost was a factor too. We certainly don’t want the Worshipful Mayor of Maidstone to be 'crestfallen'. For goodness sake, let’s fly the flag for common sense!

Ray Hurst
President
IOSH (The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health)"

It looks like Ray Hurst would loose marks in a NEBOSH exam for incorrect referencing - where the link?
