"Speed bump theft is 'not a joke'
By Jennifer Meyer of the Muscatine Journal
MUSCATINE, Iowa — Someone made a quick getaway.
But officials at Muscatine Public Works hope someone saw whoever stole a speed bump strip from Clermont Drive last weekend.
“It’s not a joke, it’s theft,” said Public Works Director Randy Hill.
Each speed bump strip costs taxpayers $1,600. The city had four, but now it has only three.
Hill believes someone might have seen the thieves with flashlights, or picking up the heavy speed bump strips.
“It’s just not a matter of pulling them up off the pavement. They’re bolted down,” he said.
Nobody reported the theft of another speed bump a few years ago from Wier Street, which Hill said is well traveled."
